What is Broadband Light?

At Austin Clinic we have a variety of treatments available using our Sciton Broadband Light (BBL) machine. BBL technology is a non-invasive, medical light therapy that is used to treat various skin conditions. BBL works by generating pulsed light at adjustable wavelengths. Using this technology we can offer a relatively painless alternative to laser resurfacing.

Our BBL’s unique and flexible design helps us customise treatments for your specific skin needs. BBL can help treat various benign skin conditions, such as facial skin imperfections, the signs of ageing and sun damage, birthmarks, unwanted hair, unsightly small veins, and other blemishes.

A consultation with us is required before a BBL treatment. We will advise you of the cost of each treatment at the time of this consultation. Cost may vary depending on the size of the area and the type of BBL treatment that is required.

What makes BBL different?

Spanning a wider visible spectrum than Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), BBL is a type of pulsed light therapy that can penetrate a variety of layers of the dermis, offering the most complete and versatile light system in its class.

With easily adjustable wavelengths, pulse width and precision cooling, BBL allows our practitioners to adjust the treatment strength according to each patient’s exact needs. With this freedom, multiple areas can be treated simultaneously, on most skin types.

What are the benefits of BBL?

BBL is a gentle, non-invasive treatment targeting:

How does BBL work?

The light energy delivered by BBL gently heats the upper layers of the skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas then stimulates skin cells to regenerate, revealing younger-looking skin. Fine blood vessels that cause redness are eliminated, pigmented age- and sun spots are lightened, while skin feels smoother, pores are less noticeable, and uneven tone and texture are improved.

Who is a good candidate for skin rejuvenation with BBL?

BBL is most effective on lighter skin tones, but most people can be treated with BBL. At the time of your consultation we’ll determine whether your particular skin issue is suitably treated using BBL. The minimal downtime associated with BBL also makes it a popular treatment for many of our patients.

What happens during a BBL treatment?

Pre-Treatment Topical

The area is sometimes pre-treated with ice, and then a cold gel is applied before the treatment starts.

Treatment

The hand-held BBL device involves intense light, similar to a camera flash. You may feel a slight pinch or snap like that of a rubber band. BBL uses advanced cooling technology to keep treatments comfortable.

How long does a treatment take?

The total treatment can take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Is there any downtime?

BBL is non-invasive and non-ablative, with minimal discomfort and downtime.

How quickly will I see results?

Results can be seen after the first treatment after about 4-5 days; however, a series of treatments will yield the best results.
